Inert Alumina Balls for Methanol Synthesis Towers
Technical Requirements

I. Purpose
Under methanol synthesis reaction conditions, inert alumina balls in the synthesis tower serve to buffer airflow impact and protect and support the synthesis catalyst.

II. Application and Dosage

Synthesis Gas: Synthesis gas conditions entering the synthesis tower are as follows:

Gas pressure: 5.2 MPa(G) Gas temperature: 190-230°C

Flow rate: ~503,000 Nm³/h (operating flexibility: 30%-105%)

Gas composition: See the table below (design values)

III. Technical Requirements and Quantity

1) Al2O3 Content: 75%. The lower the content of other impurities, such as heavy metals, arsenic, iron, chlorine, and sulfur, the better. (Excessive content will poison the synthesis catalyst and affect methanol production.)

2) Bulk Density: 1600-2200 kg/m3;

3) Two particle sizes: 25 mm and 8 mm;

4) Quantity:

25 mm alumina balls: 33.2 m3

8 mm alumina balls: 5.9 m3
