Generally speaking, silica gel can be divided into two categories: organic silica gel and inorganic silica gel according to their properties and components.
Inorganic silica gel is a kind of highly active adsorbent material, which is usually reacted with sodium silicate and sulfuric acid, followed by a series of post treatment processes such as aging and acid foaming. Silica belongs to the amorphous substance, and its chemical formula is mSiO2.nH2O. Insoluble in water and any solvent, non-toxic, tasteless, chemical stability, in addition to strong alkali and hydrofluoric acid, do not react with any substance. Different types of silica gel have different microporous structures because of their different manufacturing methods. Silica gel chemical composition and physical structure, determines the characteristics of it has many other similar materials to replace the high adsorption properties, good thermal stability, chemical stability, high mechanical strength, do household desiccants, humidity regulator, deodorants; hydrocarbon industry as decoloring agent, catalyst carrier, adsorption agent separation and purification; with fine chemical agent, beer stabilizer, paint thickener, toothpaste friction agent, flatting agent etc..
Silicone is a silicone compound, means containing Si-C bond, and at least one organic compound base is directly connected with the silicon atoms, habits are often those connected with oxygen, sulfur, nitrogen and other organic radicals and silicon atoms compounds as organosilicon compounds. Among them, polysiloxane, which is composed of silicon oxygen bond (-Si-O-Si-) as skeleton, is the most widely studied and widely used group of organosilicon compounds, accounting for more than 90% of the total amount.
Extrusion of silica gel is more common, such as the sealing ring used in household rice cooker, called "rice cooker" silicone sealing ring.
Molded silica gel is more complex, irregular shape, including silicone bowl, silica gel ice, silicone cake mold, and so on.
